Can My Employer
Find Out?
Starting a side business? Here is the truth about data sharing between Qiwa, GOSI, and your current Sponsor.
The Short Answer
No, they won’t automatically find out. If you simply buy shares as a Shareholder, the Ministry of Commerce does not notify your employer. However, appointing yourself as General Manager triggers GOSI alerts.
This is the most common question from professionals in Riyadh. To understand the risk, you must understand how the systems talk to each other.

The 2 Golden Rules of Privacy
Rule 1: Be a “Silent Partner,” not a Manager
You can own 100% of the shares as an Investor. Investors are not employees.
DANGER: Do NOT list yourself as General Manager.
This requires GOSI registration under the new company, and GOSI does not allow dual full-time employment for expats.
Rule 2: Don’t Violate your Contract
Check for “Non-Compete” or “Conflict of Interest” clauses. Using company resources (laptop, email) for side business is grounds for termination under Article 80.
Risk Scenario Table
| Action | Employer Aware? | Why? |
|---|---|---|
| Buying Shares | NO | Investment is private. |
| Becoming GM | YES | GOSI registration required. |
| MISA License | NO | No HR notification. |
